Estate Planning Law
Some people assume that Estate Planning is only about asset allocation… not true! Let’s face it: life is filled with unanticipated events. A well drafted Estate Plan can protect you and help your loved ones answer unanticipated and life-changing questions that arise about your life, death, sickness and the unknown.
We handle the full spectrum of divorce alternatives, from mediation and collaborative law to litigation. We understand what a tough time going through a divorce can be for our clients, and we help them with critical issues such as custody and support issues, and the division of property. We even provide a team of experts from related fields to help our clients, and host special “Divorce Bootcamp” events. Bottom line: we protect our clients, their families and assets by guiding them through the legal process and advocating for them 24/7.
Child Custody Law
Custody matters can be confusing, emotional, and overwhelming. When faced with the unknown, having an advocate you can trust will allow you to reach the best possible outcome. Our thoughtful team approach will help you handle your case with grace and humility while protecting your assets and transitioning your family into its next phase of life. Let us help you make the right moves.

Discover The Services An Estate Planning And Family Law Firm Offers
It is common for many families to think if they are not rich they do not need to do any estate planning. This is almost always a mistake. Planning the estate is very useful for many everyday families every bit as much as for wealthier ones. Without planning you will leave the things you have for the state to decide how it is allocated. In almost all situations where the state is left in charge, the remaining family experiences a great discomfort in the process.
Power Of Attorney
Most family law and estate planning firms will be able to help you establish P.O.A. There is the general power of attorney and a medical p.o.a. The first will allow the one designated to have full control over the estate if you are incapacitated. The second means the designated person is in charge of making medical decisions on your behalf.
Both of these are important to have in place should something happen and you are alive but unable to make competent decisions for yourself. Part of your medical proxy can be written decisions expressing how you want things handled should you be on life support, etc. As you can see these are all important things that any family should seriously consider and have legal directives in place so the family member has things done the way they want.
Setting Up A Trust
This is another thing many families simply do not understand and so they often think it is something only for the very wealthy. Certainly, wealthy people need trust and other estate planning but so do average families.
There are many different trusts one might make use of. There are trust just for real estate. So if you have a home that is paid for, protecting it inside of a trust means that others cannot attach leans or in other ways claim a right to part of its value.
An insurance trust is another type that is often very useful for many families. Even middle-class families might have a fairly substantial life insurance policy they set up to protect and support the family when the main income earner passes. But arguments between beneficiaries, creditor claims, and many other issues can in some cases either tie up those funds or worse, someone might get part of it who was not intended to.
Having this type of trust means that the policy payout will be handled by the trustee and it will be appropriately invested and paid out to any named beneficiary as the trust was set up to do.
Most people know they should have a will, but surprisingly many go to their grave without setting one up. It is possible for your attorney to set up a will without discussing it with others if that is a concern. Of course, in most situations, it is common for family members to be aware of the will and its contents. Having a will can often stop the estate from going through a costly and time-consuming probate process with the court.
As you can see these are important issues all families should deal with. Contacting the right Family Law Office to help is the best choice. Once you have an estate plan in place you and your family can relax knowing it is taken care of.
